You Actually Don't Wish I Were a Liberal
One of the things a lot of liberals I know tend to wish is that I shared their politics. (‘Their politics’ of course meaning simply liberal positions du jour, which require frequent system updates that are full of bugs and things which do not compute, as they are so new as to be of course riddled with errors.) I submit that they don’t actually want this—they may say that they do, but really they just want to feel safe, and being surrounded by mental clones of themselves apparently brings them that solace. In truth though, of course, it is in their very best interest for me to think however the hell I want to think.
You don’t get No Shark, or Ramekin (as just two examples) from someone who doesn’t love Ayn Rand, I’m sorry—the strong, idiosyncratic female characters that I create come from what the right has brought me, not the left. They are so shiningly unique and refreshing specifically because of the mental journeys that I have gone on philosophically and politically—I am retrieving that which you are afraid to go and retrieve, and bringing it back to you in a form that you can intake without feeling like you are evil. That is the lord’s work, whether you like it or not. As an artist that you enjoy, I do more for you than most people that you will ever know in your life.
By honestly and dutifully following my own inner teacher, I am able to be your teacher. That doesn’t mean ‘me up here, you down there’, just that that is what this is. I am able to think about filmmaking, and art, in the unique ways that I am able to because I can extrapolate from the knowledge I’ve gained studying Thomas Sowell, and Milton Freidman, among others. My brain is as big as it is because I have read that which challenged me and caused me to see things in new and valid ways. This approach to the world used to be an espoused central tenet of liberalism—now, it is considered heresy.
I seek not to convert even a single person to my specific way of thinking—I am here only to entertain people in new and interesting ways, and to love the world and my fellow man in a way that feels authentic to me. I would never adopt or espouse any belief that is genuinely hateful—and my friends know that, even if they might, like clockwork, forget it during election season. I am a good person, and a good friend, and a good artist—and I will remain so whether you are consciously aware that I am or not.
